My thoughts in Words
Framing the world through a unique lens to provoke different solutions. "The difficulty... is not to write, but to write what you mean; not to affect your reader, but to affect him precisely as you wish" - R. L. Stevenson
2016 was an interesting year for many people. As I went through social media I saw hundreds of posts dealing with how 2016 was a year that individuals just wanted to be over with. Unexpected tragedies and other incidents made 2016 a year to remember.
Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place – Psalm 66:12
As I shared in ministry throughout the year individuals often expressed how they were doing all they could, but going nowhere. They had filled out applications, they had changed cities, they had been to counselors, yet it seemed like their world was on pause.
Maybe you prayed, fasted, sought God, read books, and went to conferences; nonetheless a few days later you were back looking at the same situations. It was like 2016 had your life in a chokehold and was not going to let go.
In the last moments of 2016, I was reflecting on the ups and downs and God shared something simple, yet profound, with me. He reminded me of the many bridges I had seen being built as I traveled throughout the year. In most cases I noticed that the bridges were being constructed from both sides (e.g. from the east bank of the river and the west bank). Meaning the builders would then meet somewhere in the middle in order to complete the bridge. Could it be that in 2016 we had reached our midway point and could not go any further until God finished building His side of the bridge and connected with us?
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way – Psalm 37:23
Could it be that while we were at end of our portion of the bridge pacing back and forth, God was diligently working on our future, laying the foundations and slowly, but surely building toward us. As we were frustrated and desired to move God was patiently laying out blessings that we will encounter soon enough.
While we were impatient and looking for ways to make “our side of the bridge” extended even an inch further God was answering our prayers, even though we could not see it.
2016 was tough for many of us, because God made us stay in one place, experience uncomfortable things, and it felt like we would never be able to move. God made sure we did nothing else except to patiently wait on Him.
And when 2017 arrived God laid the final piece of your bridge in place and signaled that the building was complete and you may now proceed forward. Do not be surprised if 2017 takes off fast, and you receive answers to the prayers you have been waiting for since 2016.
2017 will be a great year, your bridge is complete…now proceed forward and see what God has been preparing for you.
God Bless and Always Be Encouraged!
